Comparing Semi-Automatic and Manual Stretch Wrapping

Semi automatic and automatic stretch wrapping machines provide several advantages to a manual stretch wrapper. Semi and automatic stretch wrappers will provide a consistent, professional wrap, save in stretch film cost while preventing common workplace injuries associated with manual-hand wrapping.

If you are you spending more than $600 per month in hand stretch film or if your stretch wrapper more than 3 years old, you may be throwing away more than 50% of your stretch film. Pyramid Packaging sells and supports the Arpac pallet stretch wrapping machines. The ARPAC stretch wrappers minimize your stretch film usage to cut your material costs in half!

For more information about our pallet stretch wrappers and how they can save you money on stretch film, contact Pyramid Packaging at 847.272.3400 or email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Advantages of a Case Erector – Sealing Machine

As your business expands and orders grow so will the demands on your shipping department. An automatic case erector (also know as a carton sealing, case former) packaging machine is a great way to improve the efficiency of your packaging – shipping department.

A case erector – sealing machine will automatically erect and seal corrugated cardboard boxes. Cardboard sheets are loaded into the machine’s hopper and the machine will erect the box and seal its bottom. This case erector is designed to form and bottom-seal corrugated boxes at speeds up to 15 cases per minute. The shipping department then packs its contents, seals the top of the box and its ready for shipping. This automatic process saves time, allowing you to keep pace with your shipping/packaging demands.

Pyramid Packaging is a Chicagoland distributor of the LoveShaw case erector – sealing machines. For more information, contact Pyramid Packaging at 847.272.3400 or click here for a quote on your packaging machinery needs.

Skin Packaging Machine Demo

Skin packaging also known as skin boarding is a common packaging process. During the skin packaging sealing process, packaged items are laid on top of a board and covered with a plastic film. The film is heated and air is vacuumed out leaving a tight seal between the film and its backing. The tight seal secures the packaged items and prevents it from being damaged during shipping. After the skin process, the backing can be cut to a specific shape. Often with skin packaging, a hole is usually added to the backing so it can hang from a hook.

New Ultra Thin Biodegradable Void-Fill Packaging Film

void fill air pillow

Automated Packaging Systems has introduced a new, thinner void fill packaging film to be used with the AirPouch Express 3 void-fill packaging machine.

The new EathAware biodegradable, void fill film is only 0.95 mil thick opposed to its 1.5 mil predecessor.

Since the film is thinner, a 1,000 more linear feet of material can be packed in the same size box when compared to the 1.5 mil film. Automated Packaging Systems advanced polymer formulation has increased the film’s puncture resistance and strength. The thinner film also contains an additive that causes biodegradation in 9 months to 5 years, depending on exposure conditions. The thinner film also uses less raw materials making it even more green friendly.

The material comes pre-formed and fan-folded in box that contains nearly 5,000 ft of uninflated pillows, minimizing changeover times and storage space requirements.

Flexible Packaging Supplies

Flexible packaging supplies typically include polyethylene bags, on-demand bubble wrap, shrink wrap, stretch film, skin wrap, and void fill air pillows.

Flexible packaging is used to protect products in inventory or during transportation. As the name applies, flexible packaging is a non-rigid material usually made from a plastic polymer. Materials include polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, and polyolefin. These packaging materials conform to the shape that it’s being packaged in, unlike corrugated packaging where items are packed into cardboard box.

Flexible packaging materials are used to package products in the pharmaceutical, food, industrial, logistic and distribution centers. Most often, equipment like a semi-automatic shrink wrapper, bagging or void-fill machinery are used along with flexible packaging materials in order to reduce labor cost and improve packaging efficiency. Corporate or products logos and graphics can also be branded on these materials.

Pyramid Packaging is a Chicagoland and national supplier of business to business flexible packaging supplies and machinery. For more information contact Pyramid Packaging at 847.272.3400 or click here to contact us about your flexible packaging needs.

Stretch Wrap FAQ

There are many different options for packaging materials, but shrink wrap also known as stretch film is commonly used to wrap larger, heavier items. Below are three common stretch wrap FAQ.

1. What is stretch wrap? Stretch wrap is a polyethylene, flexible packaging material often used to wrap cartons or small boxes that sit on a skid. When sending something heavy and bulky, it’s best to use a skid. Skids are commonly used because it can be easily be picked up and transported by a hand held pallet or forklift. Stretch wrap comes in blown or cast and in different gauges (thicknesses).

2. Why use stretch wrap? Stretch wrap is the most economical way to secure and send loads. The wrap keeps the items tightly bound whether they are sitting on a warehouse shelf or in transit. Making sure cartons stay on the pallet reduces the chances of your items falling off the skid and getting lost during transportation. Filling out the insurance forms for lost shipping items is the last thing any shipping clerk or logistics manager wants to to deal with.

3. How is stretch wrap applied? Stretch wrap can be applied manually using a hand held stretch wrapper which works well if you are only shipping a few pallets per day. If you are shipping more than 5 skids per day, a semi-automatic turn table wrapper may be your best option. With the turn table stretch wrapper, pallets are placed on the turn table. The stretch wrap is attached to the pallet and the wrap is automatically applied as the skid rotates on the turn table. This semi automatic wrapping process improves productivity, and produces a tighter and more consistent wrap.
