The FastWrap On-Demand Bubble Wrap System

The AirPouch FastWrap system from Automated Packaging Systems is used to produce on demand bubble wrap commonly used for order fulfillment.

The FastWrap system eliminates the need for bulky bundles of bubble wrap. Consequently, those require large amounts of storage space and are difficult to handle.

The FastWrap portable table top unit is easy to use and is virtually maintenance-free. First, plug-in the machine to any 110v outlet. Next, insert the plastic film. Finally, it instantly produces protective bubble wrap for your packing needs. The table top unit is fast and can produce bubble wrap up to 55 linear feet per-minute.

Since FastWrap uses ambient air to fill the bubbles, there is no need for a compressor. The plastic bubble wrap material is fed directly from its box. As a result, this eliminates the need for an auxiliary feeder.

One compact box of FastWrap takes up much less storage than bubble wrap. It contains 1,750 linear feet (.3 miles) of earth-friendly biodegradable packaging film.

Chicago based, Pyramid Packaging Inc. (est. 1968) is a value added distributor of the AirPouch Packaging Systems.

Why use air pillows in packaging?

Remember when receiving a UPS package and you had to dig past the polystyrene peanut shells to find the package’s content? That’s now a thing of the past because of air pillows.

Once the excitement of receiving the package wore off, you had to clean up the mess made from left over dust and the hundreds of peanut shells that were scattered all over the floor. 99% of the time the peanut shells were thrown into the garbage where they ended up in a landfill.

Have you now noticed packages are coming will with balloon-style packaging? These are also known as air pillows, or void fill packaging. Air pillow packaging is a cleaner and greener solution than peanut shell packaging. This is because polystyrene is notorious for not break down well and is being phased out rapidly.

When needed, air pillows are expanded with a portable machine whereas peanut shell packaging are always fully expanded thus requiring more warehouse space and increased transportation cost.

One box of air pillows (8″x8″ or 275 cubic feet) equals 20 bags of peanuts @ 14 feet/bag.

Stretch Wrap FAQ

There are many different options for packaging materials, but shrink wrap, also known as stretch wrap, is commonly used to wrap larger, heavier items.

Below are three Frequently Asked Questions about stretch wrap.

1. What is stretch wrap?

Stretch wrap is a polyethylene, flexible packaging material often used to wrap cartons or small boxes that sit on a skid. When sending something heavy and bulky, it’s best to use a skid. Skids are commonly used because it can be easily be picked up and transported by a hand held pallet or forklift. It comes in blown or cast and in different gauges (thicknesses).

2. Why use stretch wrap?

Stretch wrap is the most economical way to secure and send loads. The wrap keeps the items tightly bound whether they are sitting on a warehouse shelf or in transit. Making sure cartons stay on the pallet reduces the chances of your items falling off the skid and getting lost during transportation. Filling out the insurance forms for lost shipping items is the last thing any shipping clerk or logistics manager wants to to deal with.

3. How is it applied?

It can be applied manually using a hand held wrapper, which works well if you are only shipping a few pallets per day. If you are shipping more than 5 skids per day, a semi-automatic turn table wrapper may be your best option. With the turn table, pallets are placed on the turn table. It is attached to the pallet and the wrap is automatically applied as the skid rotates on the turn table. This semi automatic wrapping process improves productivity, and produces a tighter and more consistent wrap.

Why Stretch Wrap Your Products from Pyramid Packaging Inc.

Flexible Packaging Supplies

Flexible packaging supplies typically include polyethylene bags, on-demand bubble wrap, shrink wrap, stretch film, skin board, and void fill air pillows.

Flexible packaging is used to protect products in inventory or during transportation. As the name applies, it is a non-rigid material usually made from a plastic polymer.

Materials include polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, and polyolefin. These packaging materials conform to the shape that it’s being packaged in. This is unlike corrugated packaging, where items are packed into cardboard box and it’s far more rigid.

These materials are used to package products in the pharmaceutical, food, industrial, logistic and distribution centers.

Most often, equipment like a semi-automatic shrink wrapper, bagging or void fill machinery are used along with flexible packaging materials in order to reduce labor cost and improve packaging efficiency. Corporate or products logos and graphics can also be branded on these materials which can help your brand reach new heights.

New Ultra Thin Biodegradable Void-Fill Packaging Film

Automated Packaging Systems has introduced a new, ultra thin void fill packaging film to be used with the AirPouch Express 3 void fill packaging machine.

The new EathAware biodegradable, void fill film is ultra thin at only 0.95 mil thick opposed to its 1.5 mil predecessor.

Since the film is thinner, a 1,000 more linear feet of material can be packed in the same size box when compared to the 1.5 mil film. Automated Packaging Systems advanced polymer formulation has increased the film’s puncture resistance and strength.

The thinner film also contains an additive that causes biodegradation in 9 months to 5 years, depending on exposure conditions. The thinner film also uses less raw materials making it even more green friendly.

The material comes pre-formed and fan-folded in box that contains nearly 5,000 feet of uninflated pillows, minimizing changeover times and storage space requirements.

To find our full offerings of void fill, visit our Inflatable Protective Packaging section on our website to learn more.

Skin Packaging Machine Demonstration

Skin packaging, also known as skin boarding, is a common packaging process. During the sealing process, packaged items are laid on top of a board and covered with a plastic film.

The Starview SP Series is top of the line. Here’s how it works.

The film is heated and air is vacuumed out leaving a tight seal between the film and its backing. The tight seal secures the packaged items and prevents it from being damaged during shipping.

After the skin process, the backing can be cut to a specific shape. Often with skin packaging, a hole is usually added to the backing so it can hang from a hook.

Pyramid Packaging offers a variety of SP and die cutting equipment for low-to-high volume applications. It seals products between a top layer of heated plastic and a bottom layer of adhesive-coated card stock. This makes it a very useful and versatile process to use across a variety of applications.

Pyramid Packaging is a Chicagoland value-added reseller of the Starview Skin Packaging Machines.

For more information, contact Pyramid Packaging Inc. at (847)-272-3400. You can click here to contact us about a quote and a free ROI (return on investment) SP analysis.
